Ethiopia Suke Quto

The "Elegant & Refreshing" Classic

If you’re looking for a coffee that is light, sophisticated, and incredibly easy to drink, Suke Quto is our top recommendation. It’s a "washed" coffee, which means the fruit was removed before drying—the result is a cup that tastes remarkably clean, crisp, and refreshing, almost like a fine specialty tea.

What it tastes like: A delicate and bright profile featuring notes of sweet apricot, honey, and yellow raisins, with a soft floral finish that lingers pleasantly.

Why we like it: It is one of our all-time favorites. This coffee is 100% traceable back to Mr. Tesfaye Bekele’s farm, where he has mastered the art of organic, sustainable growing. It’s a "FABULOUS" cup (his words and ours!) that perfectly represents the best of Ethiopian coffee.

Best way to drink it: Because it is so light and elegant, we recommend drinking it black as a Filter coffee or Pour-over. It also makes a wonderfully bright and clean Cold Brew for warmer days.

ROASTER'S TIP: Even though this is your typical "filter coffee", it does work exceptionally well as espresso. Keep the timing quick and yield bigger than usual (1:3 works like magic)

- Lower coffee-to-water ratio (more coffee, less water) = fuller and more intense flavor.
- Higher coffee-to-water ratio (less coffee, more water) = more delicate and balanced flavor.

We must confess - we love coffees from the Guji region. And even more, we love coffees from the Suke Quto washing station. The Guji region is, in our opinion, becoming one of the best coffee regions in Ethiopia and we have one man to thank - Mr. Tesfaye Bekele, owner of the Suke Quto washing station and the man who brought coffee in the region. We don’t know what magic trick Tesfaye pulled off with his 278 outgrowers, but there is only one word that can describe this coffee - FABULOUS! But it’s not just the flavor and overall quality of this coffee ... we are proud to say that this coffee is 100% traceable, all the way to the growers.

Suke Quto was one of our OG's in the coffee line up: it's sweet, it's delicate, it's everything a coffee lover looks for in their daily filter coffee. But this coffee is so good that when green coffee is offered, it is immediately sold out!

For this year's crop, we were prepared. And as soon as our sourcing partner Trabocca let us know that this coffee was available, we reserved four bags. And here it is, Tesfaye Bekele's Suke Quto. We believe that this is the one of the best washed coffees that Ethiopia has to offer.
