“This is the bag I'd hand a friend who drinks supermarket coffee.”
Variety
As the seasons change, our offer changes. We source coffees from farms we've worked with for years. And we discover new farms every season.
Flavor
We don't follow trends and hype. We follow the flavor. We believe that every coffee has its peak flavor and our roasts are crafted to showcase it, no matter how you brew it.
Freshness
We roast our coffees every week, so you will get freshly roasted coffee. But fresh coffee isn't always best coffee. From our experience, coffee is best two to four weeks after roasting.
Experience
Our head roaster Dušan is a SCA certified roaster, working his magic since 2019. He roasts on a Diedrich IR-12, one of the most renowned roasting machines in the industry.
The problem

Your coffee doesn't taste bitter because coffee is bitter.

It tastes bitter because of what happened to it long before it reached your kitchen. Most of us have only ever had coffee that went through the same four steps:

1

Beans from hundreds of farms go into one sack.

The good lots and the bad lots get mixed, and nobody can tell you who grew them.

2

They get roasted dark to hide it.

A dark roast makes everything taste the same, which is the point. Defects disappear — and so do the fruit and sweetness.

3

Then they sit on a shelf for months.

Coffee is a fresh product. The aromas you're paying for fade a little every week.

4

So you add sugar and milk to cover it.

And you think that's just what coffee is.

Capsules don't fix it. “Premium” labels don't fix it. A more expensive machine doesn't fix it either — a great machine just makes old, burnt coffee more precisely.

How we do it differently

The Short Chain: four pairs of hands between the farm and your cup.

Not hundreds of farms in one sack. Not a factory roaster. Every bag we sell can be traced back to a specific farm, a specific roast, and the person who packed it.

01 · The farmer

People with names

Nestor Lasso in Colombia. Fabiano Pires Machado and Maria Soraia Guimarães in Brazil. Tesfaye Bekele from Ethiopia. Small lots, kept separate.

02 · The sourcing

Friends on the ground

Our friend Rok Fabjan, a fellow Slovenian, sources coffee in Brazil's Caparaó National Park. Some lots, like Entre Nos, we develop together with the farmer.

03 · The roaster

Dušan, the roaster

Our Head Roaster roasts every coffee himself in Ljubljana. Light enough to keep the fruit and complexity, developed enough to stay sweet in milk.

04 · The packer

Sara, bag by bag

Sara packs every order by hand. Then it goes straight to you. Coffee is shipped in 1-3 days from your order. Because we want you to enjoy it as quickly as possible!

What changes in your cup

You'll taste things you didn't know coffee could do.

Sweet without sugar

Caramel, milk chocolate, ripe fruit — from the bean itself. Most people drop the sugar within a week.

Smooth with milk

Our espresso coffees are roasted to stay creamy and sweet in a cappuccino, not to cut through it with bitterness.

Aroma you grind yourself

Coffee keeps its aroma inside the bean. Grind just before brewing and your cup will taste like it did on our cupping table.

A recipe on every page

Every coffee comes with Dušan's brew guide, so your first cup is dialled in, not guessed.

A story you can tell

Which variety, who grew it, at what altitude, how it was processed. Coffee becomes the thing guests ask about.

Cheaper than the café

Brewing coffee at home is cheaper and you control the coffee. Exceptional coffees at a fraction of the café price.

Proof, not adjectives

The coffee that converts the sceptics.

Brazil Caramelo Caparaó has turned more people from supermarket coffee to specialty than anything else we roast. Here's what people say after their first bag:

★★★★★
“Got it as a gift from my girlfriend. I'm hooked to the smooth chocolate caramel flavor in my cappucino.”
— Ellis, UK · Brazil Caramelo Caparaó
★★★★★
“I never thought coffee can taste like this ... it's like that jasmin tea served in a Japanese restaurant, but on a totally different level!”
— Gloria, New York · Colombia El Diviso Tabi Carbonic Maceration
★★★★★
“Wow.”
— Oscar, Berlin · Brazil Entre Nos
Tested on real guests

Every coffee is poured daily at Kavarna Specialka.

Our café at Center Rog in Ljubljana is where each roast proves itself before it reaches the shop. If it doesn't work in a cappuccino at 8 a.m. on a Monday, it doesn't go in a bag.

Why give a bag away?

Because the hardest part is the first cup. Once you've tasted the difference, you don't go back — and we'd rather earn your next order than ask for it.

Small lots don't wait. Single-farm coffees are harvested once a year and run out. Some of our micro lots are already running out for this season. But new coffees are already here!

Questions buyers asked before ordering

Still deciding?

I don't have a grinder. Can I still order?

Yes. Choose your brewing method on the product page and we'll grind it for you. But if you can, grind just before brewing: ground coffee loses its aroma within days, and a simple burr grinder makes a bigger difference to your cup than a new machine.

I drink it with milk. Is specialty coffee too sour for me?

Start with Brazil Caramelo Caparaó or Good Vibrations Seasonal Blend. Both are chocolatey, caramel-sweet and built for milk drinks.

How does the free bag work?

Add any three bags from our specialty coffee range to your cart and use code FREECOFFEE at checkout. The buttons on this page apply it for you automatically. The lowest-priced bag is free.

How fresh is it?

We roast every Monday and Tuesday, and the coffee is shipped out 1-3 days after you complete the order.

What does shipping cost?

Shipping is FREE in Slovenia from 50 € and across the EU from 99 €. Outside the EU, customs duties aren't included in our prices.

Can I get this every month?

Yes. Several coffees are available as a subscription — delivered to you on a schedule you decide. Or go for our curated BRIGHT (for filter lovers) and BOLD (for espresso lovers) subscriptions. Try your three bags first, then decide.
